Monthly Parking Options in Chicago’s Gold Coast Neighborhood

Types of parking options in the Gold Coast

  1. Secured covered self park garage in large highrise.  These usually have a doorman and require a garage door opener to get in and out.
  2. Covered garage with 24/7 valet attendant.  This is a really convenient option as it is usually cheaper than the expensive highrise deeded parking, but great as you can drive up drop off your car and head out as needed right away.
  3. Uncovered surface lot.  Usually a hang tag will be issued to identify that you are a monthly parker at the lot.
  4. Uncovered unpaved lot.  Hang tag also issued to identify the car.  Unpaved ground, but super super cheap.  Best bargain option in the city as these unpaved areas can cost one fifth of the cost of the area’s most expensive option.

If you have a car and live in the area, you’ll need a monthly parking space hands down.  There’s just no escaping it as there are too many street parking restrictions to make not having a monthly parking spot an even remote possibility.  One thing around having a spot is to drop your car off in a farther off neighborhood with less restrictive street parking restrictions.  That said, no matter where in Chicago you park, you’ll have to keep track of the street sweeping schedule and be aware of the overnight parking ban.  While it might seem cool to save some cash and take public transit to and from your free street parking spot, this quickly wheres off.  Parking tickets,  car damage, and inconvenience and cost of going to and from your car makes you wonder why you don’t have it in a great monthly spot right near your place.  Enjoy life in the city and enjoy your car.  Monthly parking makes that happen :)

Night and Weekend Only Parking

There are options for restricted access for night and weekend only parking.  For example, your car can be in a garage anytime between 3:30pm and 8am the next day Monday through Friday, and 24/7 on the weekends.  However, this means your car must NOT be in the garage outside of those times.  Some folks have confused these night and weekend only restricted offers to mean that you can only get access to your car during those times and that you can leave it there.  This is incorrect.  The key fob will not work and won’t let you out until you pay the daily rate for the time period your car was in the garage when it wasn’t supposed to.  If you are paying $40 a month for the night and weekend only, this is a great deal but definitely understand and be aware of the time.  If you overstay or forget you are required to pay the daily difference in cost which can be as high as $40 for a single day.  The garages have these specials because they are for when the garage is least full.  Monthly options during this off peak time are great.  They can be used by someone who visits a family member or friend on the weekends from time to time.  Have the monthly $40 option is sometimes better than the transient daily rate here and there.  This is also a great option for night workers if the garage is located in your particular area.   Of course, many do need 24/7 parking and there are many of those options available as well, they just cost a whole lot more.   Click the link below to see all monthly options in Chicago.
